Greta is one of the tiniest dogs in our care, weighing just over 5 pounds, but she has already proven she has the heart of a giant.

When Greta came to Good Omen Dog Rescue, we knew she would need medical attention. She has a mature cataract in one eye that has progressed to involve the entire eye. Thankfully, her eye pressure is normal and our veterinarian does not believe it is causing her pain or needs to be removed at this time. We will continue to monitor it closely.

Unfortunately, Greta has recently taken a step backward. She has been losing weight rapidly and is now down to just 5.1 pounds. Bloodwork also revealed a significantly elevated white blood cell count and moderate anemia, both signs that something more serious may be going on.

Our veterinarian is first ruling out tick-borne disease with additional testing, as some infections can cause these abnormalities and are treatable. If the test is negative, our biggest concern is that Greta may be battling an underlying cancer.

Right now, Greta’s journey is one of waiting for answers while making sure she stays as comfortable, loved, and well cared for as possible. No matter what the results show, we are committed to giving her the best quality of life we can.
