Darci Rowe

11yo, F, 20lb Terrier Mix

Darci Rowe is one of the 5 dogs who lost their beloved foster/dad when he suddenly passed away. He was a once of a kind person who will be loved and cherished by everyone that was lucky enough to know him. Darci was his personal dog and he loved all of the pups in his care tremendously. When we got the call to come get the 4 rescue pups in his care after the unexpected passing, his family wanted us to take in his special needs baby to ensure she got the her father always gave to his babies. We do not take that responsibility lightly and we will do exactly that.

After taking Darci into the rescue, we started to learn more about Darci’s past, and it’s heartbreaking. Before coming to her dad, Darci came from an abusive home where she was intentionally harmed and used as target practice. That injury left her paralyzed, with a BB permanently imbedded in her spine.

Her dad rescued her from that nightmare and gave her everything she had been denied: safety, stability, patience, and unconditional love. He cared for her through every challenge and never gave up on her. Because of him, Darci knew what it meant to be loved.

At Sun City West Animal Hospital, we established a medical baseline and confirmed the BB is still lodged in her spine. While we don’t know exactly when the injury occurred, we are committed to giving Darci the same level of care and devotion her dad did.

Darci is paralyzed, and her bladder must be manually expressed 2–3 times a day. Her previous vet had done bloodwork showing elevated kidney values, so we are rechecking labs and supporting her kidneys with Denimarin. Her care is ongoing and intensive, but she is safe, comfortable, and deeply loved.

We are endlessly grateful to our director Heather Wilson Safsten whose medical expertise ensures Darci receives exceptional care and whose home gives Darci a peaceful, clean, loving place to spend her days.

Thank you for helping us continue Darci’s story, one rooted in compassion, dignity, and love.
